Workplace training “Fast Track” for existing workers
Certificate IV Building & Construction (clustered) Site Management, Building and Estimating
Course Hours: 220; a prerequisite of 18 months experience in the industry is required.
Customised and flexible “off-site” training is the core of our business. We are the industry leading organisation in innovative and flexible training.
Flexibility of the "face to face" course delivery, assessments and skills recognition of our your workplace experience is the key. We recognise many employees have experience in the offered and assessed subject elements. So it could be necessary to assess the employee’s knowledge (skills recognition tests) then provide specific “Skills Gap Training” to complete a certificate. A minimum of 18 months work experience is recommended as the employee will need suitable underpinning knowledge in building. We can determine the appropriate training content within the training package BCG08 to specifically meet your needs.
We consider the Certificate IV Building & Construction (Building BCG40106) as the industry benchmark pathway qualification for site supervisors,Project Coordinators, contract administrators and future builders.
Industry skills set
We have arranged clusters of subjects known as Skills Sets Programs which offer the industry employees the most efficient use of educational training time in an innovative concept. We can customise the training to meet with your company strategies and needs.

These programs cover construction and business theories in residential and low rise buildings. Participants will be trained and assessed in project management, Building Code of Australia (BCA Vol.1 & 2) knowledge and interpretation, estimating, site communications, people management skills, Risk management and Hazard Identification, Safety (OSH), Construction technology , design details and building contracts.

All of the Certificate IV subjects are nationally accredited and will create a underpinning knowledge pathway to Builders licensing requirements. On completion of the skills set you will receive a Statement of Attainment  in the specific Skill Set programs.

Our educators/assessors will carry out an employer interview, gather your work experience evidence, apply knowledge testing and deliver “Skills Gap Training” at your workplace facilities or "off site" in full or half days sessions so it limits interruptions to your projects. Or we can work out a suitable delivery program with you over 11 months.

Alternatively,  try our BCTIF funded short courses for Estimating, Contract Administration, Supervision and Computing. These are one to three day courses designed to up skill employees with industry content and your specific needs.

Subject descriptions and elements

The National Accredited Courses and module / unit documents are available in the NTIS website. Just search the Certificate IV in Building and Construction ( Building) BCG 40106.

The building courses are done by  a blended flexible delivery mode, this meaning; several modes of delivery are incorporated, face to face, project based and self paced learning. Most subjects are clustered together and blended to reduce duplication which minimises the face to face duration but, you will have assignment work to be completed in your time.

Skills Recognition of current knowledge assessed in the workplace
Certificate IV Building & Construction and Diploma qualifications
Where a person believes he/she can demonstrate the level of competencies required by the Building courses, he/she can apply to have those competencies assessed in the workplace or other appropriate location.

A separate fee structure is applied to this process which includes; two interviews, special assessment evidence investigation, specific formal written testing and evaluating documentation as an accredited provider.

When the person does not have appropriate evidence at hand and or fails relevant skills assessments to complete the Certificate, further specific subjects may need to be undertaken like Gap training or further work experience.
BTWA Teaching strategies
Part of being an effective accredited provider involves understanding how adults learn best. Compared to children and teens, adults have special needs and requirements as learners. We attempt to deliver education covering the basic learning styles so each participant has the best opportunity to learn. We also focus on basic Adult learning characterises which fulfils the education journey.
Ø       autonomous and self-directed. Adults need to be free to direct themselves. The lecturers actively involve adult participants in the learning process and serve as facilitators for them. Lecturers develop participants' perspectives about what topics to cover and let them work on projects. Allow the participants to assume responsibility for presentations and encourage leadership. Guiding participants to knowledge and supplying them with some facts will help them reach their goals.
Ø       life experiences and knowledge needs to be shared amongst peers that include work-related activities, community responsibilities, and previous education. Most participants feel they a better connection in learning to this knowledge/experience base. Lecturers help students draw out experience and knowledge which is relevant to the topic..
Ø      goal-oriented. Students enrolling in a course, they usually know what goal they want to attain. They, therefore, appreciate an educational program that is organized and has clearly defined elements. Instructors show participants how this course will help them attain their goals. This classification of goals and course objectives is done early in the course.
Ø      relevancy-oriented. Learning has to be applicable to their work or other responsibilities to be of value to them. Lecturers identify objectives for adult participants before the course begins. This means, also, that theories and concepts must be related to a setting familiar to participants like projects that reflects the region and construction industry.
Ø      practical.  focusing on the contents and aspects of a lesson most useful to them in their work. They may not be interested in knowledge for its own sake. Instructors must tell participants explicitly how the lesson will be useful to them on the job.

Assessment Strategies
Ø      Lectures, tutorials, practical problem solving, take-home tasks, role plays and observation.
Ø      Class tests, assignments and Portfolio submissions are part of the assessment process.
Ø      Project based submission covering an entire skills set
Ø      Formative and summative assessment tools are used
